Removal and Installation

NOTE:
New O-ring seals must be installed any time the lines are disconnected from the steering gear.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
- Disengage the steering coupling shield from the line fitting and slide upward on the steering shaft.
- Remove the pinch bolt.
- Turn the steering wheel as necessary to access the bolt.
- Make sure the steering column is locked.
- Disconnect the lines.
- Discard the O-ring seals.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the cotter pin and nut.
- Discard the cotter pin.
- Using the special tool, disconnect the drag link.
- Remove the bolts, washers and the steering gear.
- Remove the nut.
- Using the special tool, remove the steering gear sector shaft arm.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install a new high pressure hose O-ring seal (N811029-S) and a new return hose O-ring seal (N803257-S).
- Fill and leak check the system. Refer to STEERING SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
CAUTION:
During installation, do not overtighten the fittings.
