Driveshaft - Rear, One-Piece, Rear Wheel Drive (RWD): Installation

Vehicles with slip yokes 

  1. Lubricate the slip-yoke spline with grease.
  2. Remove the plug from the extension housing.
  3. CAUTION: Align the index marks.

  4. Slide the driveshaft slip-yoke on the transmission output shaft.
  5. Vehicles with circular flange 

    CAUTION: Align the index marks.
    NOTE: Bolt direction is vehicle application dependent.

  6. Position the driveshaft yoke on the transmission flange.
  7. Vehicles with split pin flange 

  8. Remove the tape from the bearing cups.
  9. CAUTION: Align the index marks.

  10. Position the bearing cups in the rear axle pinion flange.
  11. Vehicles with circular flange 

    CAUTION: Align the index marks.

  12. Position the driveshaft yoke on the rear axle pinion flange, and loosely install the 4 new driveshaft-to-axle bolts.
  13. CAUTION: Install new bolts.
    NOTE: Bolt direction is vehicle application dependent.

  14. Loosely install the 4 new driveshaft-to-transmission bolts.
  15. Vehicles with split pin yoke 

    CAUTION: Install new bolts and new retainers.

  16. Install the 2 new retainers and 4 new driveshaft-to-axle bolts.
    • Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
  17. Vehicles with circular flange 

    CAUTION: The driveshaft yoke fits tightly on the rear axle pinion flange pilot. To make sure that the yoke seats squarely on the flange, tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern as shown.

  18. Tighten the 4 new driveshaft-to-axle bolts to 111 Nm (82 lb-ft).
  19. Tighten the 4 driveshaft-to-transmission bolts to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
