Driveshaft - Rear, One-Piece, Rear Wheel Drive (RWD): Installation

Vehicles with slip yokes
- Lubricate the slip-yoke spline with grease.
- Remove the plug from the extension housing.
- Slide the driveshaft slip-yoke on the transmission output shaft.
- Position the driveshaft yoke on the transmission flange.
- Remove the tape from the bearing cups.
- Position the bearing cups in the rear axle pinion flange.
- Position the driveshaft yoke on the rear axle pinion flange, and loosely install the 4 new driveshaft-to-axle bolts.
- Loosely install the 4 new driveshaft-to-transmission bolts.
- Install the 2 new retainers and 4 new driveshaft-to-axle bolts.
- Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
- Tighten the 4 new driveshaft-to-axle bolts to 111 Nm (82 lb-ft).
- Tighten the 4 driveshaft-to-transmission bolts to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).

Align the index marks.

Install new bolts and new retainers.

CAUTION:
The driveshaft yoke fits tightly on the rear axle pinion flange pilot. To make sure that the yoke seats squarely on the flange, tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern as shown.
