Driveshaft - Rear, One-Piece, Four Wheel Drive (4WD): Installation

All vehicles 

    CAUTION: Align the index marks.

  1. Position the driveshaft yoke on the transfer case flange.
  2. Vehicles with split pin yoke 

  3. Remove the tape from the bearing cups.
  4. CAUTION: Align the index marks.

  5. Position the bearing cups in the rear axle pinion flange.
  6. Vehicles with circular flange 

    CAUTION: Align the index marks.

  7. Position the driveshaft yoke on the rear axle pinion flange.
  8. All vehicles 

    CAUTION: Install new bolts.
    NOTE: Bolt direction is vehicle application dependent.

  9. Loosely install the 4 new driveshaft-to-transfer case bolts.
  10. Vehicles with split pin yoke 

    CAUTION: Install new bolts and new retainers.
  11. Install the 2 new retainers and 4 new rear driveshaft-to-axle bolts.
    • Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).

  12. Vehicles with circular flange 

    CAUTION: Install new bolts.
    CAUTION: The driveshaft yoke fits tightly on the rear axle pinion flange pilot. To make sure that the yoke seats squarely on the flange, tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern as shown.

  13. Install the 4 new driveshaft-to-axle bolts.
    • Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
  14. All vehicles 

  15. Tighten the 4 driveshaft-to-transfer case bolts.
    • Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
