Safety Belt Shoulder Height Adjuster With Stripped Weld Nuts

  1. Remove the shoulder safety belt height adjuster (602B82). For additional information, refer to HEIGHT ADJUSTER - SHOULDER SAFETY BELT .
  2. Use the half-inch drill with integral stop provided in the D-Ring Installation Kit to drill out the damaged threads in the upper pillar structure.

  3. NOTE: After each rotation, back off the tap slightly to remove new cuttings and be sure to blow out any chips before proceeding.

  4. Apply a suitable lubricant to the M14 x 1.5 tap with integral stop provided in the D-Ring Installation Kit, and tap new threads.
  5. Use a threaded insert (part no. N807170-S190) provided in the D-Ring Installation Kit and screw it into the retapped hole until it is slightly below the surface.

  6. Use a hammer to lightly tap the installation tool provided in the D-Ring Installation Kit several times to seat the insert keys.

  7. NOTE: If the shoulder safety belt height adjuster retaining bolts are stripped, install a new shoulder safety belt height adjuster and retaining bolts. For additional information, refer to the Ford/Lincoln Mercury Master Parts Catalog for the appropriate parts.
  8. Install the shoulder safety belt height adjuster. For additional information, refer to HEIGHT ADJUSTER - SHOULDER SAFETY BELT .
