Test H: Battery Leakage Or Damage

  1. Check for acid damage to both battery harnesses and cables. If damage does not exist, go to next step. If damage exists, repair as necessary.
  2. Start engine and let idle. Turn all accessories off. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM. Measure voltage between primary battery terminals. If voltage is less than 15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 15 volts or more, perform TEST G: SYSTEM OVERCHARGES (BATTERY VOLTAGE GREATER THAN 15 VOLTS) .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check mounting of both batteries. If batteries are properly mounted, go to next step. If both batteries are not properly mounted, repair as necessary.
  4. Check both batteries for anything applying pressure to or rubbing against batteries. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair as necessary.
  5. Check batteries for cracks and damage. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, replace batteries as necessary.
  6. Test condition of batteries. If both batteries are okay, system is operating properly at this time. If either battery is defective, replace appropriate battery.
