Manual Control Lever Shaft & Seal: Removal

ALL VEHICLES 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Disconnect the shift cable at the manual control lever shaft assembly.

  3. Disconnect the digital TR sensor connector.

  4. Remove the digital TR sensor.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    2. Remove the sensor.

    VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A FLUID PAN DRAIN PLUG 

  5. Remove the drain plug and allow the fluid to drain.

  6. NOTE: Do not discard the gasket unless damaged. This is a reusable gasket.

  7. Remove the transmission fluid pan and the gasket.

    VEHICLES NOT EQUIPPED WITH A FLUID PAN DRAIN PLUG 

  8. NOTE: Do not discard the gasket unless damaged. This is a reusable gasket.

  9. Drain the fluid and remove the transmission fluid pan and the gasket.
    1. Loosen, but do not remove, the bolts.
    2. Remove the front and side bolts.
    3. Lower the front of the fluid pan and allow the fluid to drain.
    4. Remove the remaining bolts and the fluid pan.

    ALL VEHICLES 

  10. NOTE: After removal, discard the filter and seal assembly.

  11. Remove the filter and seal assembly by carefully pulling and rotating the filter as necessary.
  12. CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch or damage the aluminum bore or the new seal may leak.

  13. If the seal remains in the pump bore, remove it carefully with a small screwdriver so as not to scratch or damage the aluminum bore.
  14. NOTE: A No. 53 drill bit (1/16-inch) can be used instead to remove the manual lever shaft retaining pin.

  15. Using the special tool, remove the manual lever shaft retaining pin.
  16. CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the manual control lever bore.
    NOTE: The manual control lever and manual control lever shaft are one piece.
    NOTE: Use a crescent wrench on the manual control lever or outer flats of manual control lever shaft assembly when removing the inner manual valve detent lever nut.

  17. Remove the manual valve control lever shaft assembly.
    1. Remove the inner manual valve nut.
    2. Remove the inner manual valve detent lever.
    3. Remove the parking pawl actuating rod.
    4. Remove the manual valve control lever shaft assembly.
  18. Using the special tool, remove the manual control lever seal.
