Removal and Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. On 4x4 vehicles, remove the front wheel opening molding. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
  3. Remove the front fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
  4. NOTE: 4.6L engine shown; 5.4L engine similar.

  5. Remove the three-way catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts.
  6. Remove the eight nuts and the exhaust manifold.

  7. Remove and discard the exhaust manifold gasket.

  8. Clean and inspect the exhaust manifold. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts in the sequence shown.
