Differential Carrier - Front Axle: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the axle assembly. For additional information, refer to FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY .
- Remove the differential housing cover bolts and the differential housing cover.
- Remove the differential bearing caps.
- Remove the differential bearing cap bolts.
- Remove and identify the differential bearing caps.
- Install the special tool.
- Install the axle assembly into the bench fixture.
- Install the special tools.
- Spread the differential housing to the specification.
- Adjust the special tool to zero.
- Tighten the differential carrier spreader screw.
- Remove the dial indicator.
- Remove the differential assembly from the housing.
- Position the wood blocks.
- Push downward on the pry bars.
- Remove the differential assembly.
- Remove the special tool.
CAUTION:
Overspreading can damage the differential housing.
