Front Door Handle: Notes

  1. Remove the front door trim panel. For additional information, refer to FRONT DOOR TRIM PANEL .
  2. Position the watershield aside.
  3. NOTE: When any new lock cylinder is installed, the driver door and ignition lock cylinders should be installed as a set. This eliminates carrying an extra key which will fit only 1 lock. If a new key is used, the new key code number is stamped on a metal tag attached to the key.
    NOTE: Individual lock cylinders are repaired by discarding the inoperative cylinder and building a new lock cylinder using the appropriate lock repair package. The lock repair package includes a detailed instruction sheet to build the new lock cylinder to the current key code of the vehicle.

  4. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.

    To remove individual parts, only carry out the listed steps: 

    PART REMOVAL STEPS

    Part Steps
    Exterior door handle 1, 3-5
    Front door latch 1, 2, 6-14
    Front door lock cylinder 2, 3 (1 exterior door handle nut only), 4
    Door lock actuator 1, 2, 6-18
    Door ajar switch 1, 2, 6-16
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
