Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the transmission. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 5R55S .
  2. If removing the rear oil seal retainer plate, remove the oil pan. For additional information, refer to OIL PAN, OIL PUMP, OIL PUMP SCREEN AND PICKUP TUBE .
  3. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.

    To remove individual parts, only carry out the listed steps: 

    PARTS REMOVAL STEPS SPECIFICATION

    Part Steps
    Flexplate or flywheel 1-2
    Crankshaft rear seal 1-5
    Crankshaft rear seal retainer plate 1-7

  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
