Rear Brake Shoes: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
  2. Remove brake drum. If brake drum is difficult to remove, pry off access hole plug, located behind backing plate. Using screwdriver or Brake Adjustment Tool (D81L-1103-C) or equivalent, back off adjuster screw.
  3. Remove upper and lower retracting spring. Remove 2 brake shoe hold-down springs and pins. See Fig 1 .
  4. Remove the self-adjuster.
  5. Remove the hold-down springs.
  6. Remove the parking brake lever clip and the parking brake lever. See Fig 1 . Remove parking brake lever from trailing shoe.
