Rear Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. Using vacuum system, clean backing plate. Using high temperature grease, lubricate backing plate brake shoe contact areas.
  2. Apply light coat of anti-seize to threaded area of adjuster nut and socket. Turn nut down on screw completely, then loosen 1/2 turn.
  3. Install parking brake lever on trailing shoe using NEW clip. Position trailing shoe on backing plate and install shoe hold down spring and pin.
  4. Position leading shoe on backing plate and install hold-down spring and pin. If installing new brake drum, clean protective coating using carburetor cleaner.
  5. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. See Figure .
