Pinpoint Test Aw: The Headlights Do Not Illuminate When The Wipers Are On
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mercury Monterey and 2004 Ford Freestar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- AW1 CHECK CIRCUIT 671 (LB) FOR VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the windshield wiper motor C125-2 circuit 671 (LB), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to AW2.
- AW2 CHECK CIRCUIT 671 (LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280c.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280c-37 circuit 671 (LB), harness side and the windshield wiper motor C125-2 circuit 671 (LB); then between the SJB C2280c-37 circuit 671 (LB), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the SJB and windshield wiper motor and greater than 10,000 ohms between the SJB and ground?
Yes
GO to AW3
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- AW3 CHECK FOR CORRECT MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the SJB self-test.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
