Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART - REAR VIEW MIRRORS

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Exterior mirrors
    • Interior rear view mirror
    • Bussed electrical center (BEC) fuse:
      • 10 (30A)
      • 53 (10A)
    • Smart junction box (SJB) fuse:
      • 4 (5A)
      • 16 (5A)
    • Exterior mirror control switch
    • Memory set switch
    • Exterior mirror motor
    • Exterior mirror glass
    • Interior rear view mirror
    • Driver seat module (DSM)
    • SJB
    • Wiring harness
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  5. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
  6. Carry out the data link diagnostics test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
    • SCP, CAN or ISO circuit fault; all electronic control units have no response / not equipped, Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    • No response/not equipped for smart junction box (SJB), Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    • No response/not equipped for driver seat module (DSM), Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK
    • SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the rear electronics module or the driver seat module.
  7. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to SJB DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX - REAR VIEW MIRRORS  or DSM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX - REAR VIEW MIRRORS  to continue diagnostics.
  8. If DTCs are retrieved that are not found in the following DSM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index or the SJB Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index, Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
  9. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to PROBLEM SYMPTOM CHART - REAR VIEW MIRRORS  to continue diagnostics.

B1668 Mirror Driver Right/Left Motor Stalled DSM Go To PINPOINT TEST AE . If inoperative from the memory set switch, Go To PINPOINT TEST AF .
B1669 Mirror Passenger Up/Down Motor Stalled DSM Go To PINPOINT TEST AE . If inoperative from the memory set switch, Go To PINPOINT TEST AF .
B1670 Mirror Passenger Right/Left Motor Stalled DSM Go To PINPOINT TEST AE . If inoperative from the memory set switch, Go To PINPOINT TEST AF .
