Heated Rear Window

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mercury Monterey and 2004 Ford Freestar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

For vehicles equipped with electronic automatic temperature control (EATC), the heated rear window is controlled by the SJB and the EATC module. The heated rear window switch is incorporated into the EATC module. When the switch is pressed ON, the EATC module sends a message over the SCP network to the SJB. The SJB grounds the heated rear window relay coil control circuit. The ground signal closes the heated rear window relay which applies power to the heated rear window grid. The heated rear window eliminates condensation on the rear window.

For vehicles equipped with manual temperature control, the heated rear window is controlled by the SJB and the heated rear window switch. The heated rear window switch is incorporated into the function selector switch assembly. When the switch is pressed ON, a ground signal is supplied to the SJB. The SJB then grounds the heated rear window relay coil control circuit. The ground signal closes the heated rear window relay which supplies power to the heated rear window grid. The heated rear window eliminates condensation on the rear window.
