Pinpoint Test AQ: The Safety Belt Warning Chime Is Inoperative

NOTE: Verify the belt minder is activated before diagnosing the belt minder.
  1. AQ1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE SAFETY BELT INDICATOR 
    • Verify the correct operation of the safety belt warning system. Refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
    • Does the safety belt warning system operate correctly? 

    Yes 

    GO to AQ2.

    No 

    Refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS to continue diagnosis of the safety belt switch.

  2. AQ2 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE SAFETY BELT WARNING LAMP 
    • Verify the correct operation of the safety belt warning lamp.
    • Does the safety belt warning lamp illuminate correctly, but the chime does not sound? 

    Yes 

    GO to AQ3.

    No 

    Refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS to continue diagnosis of the safety belt switch.

  3. AQ3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes 

    INSTALL a new instrument cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No 

    The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
