Removal (4.0L Engine)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. If flushing of refrigerant system has not been performed, discharge A/C system, using approved recovery/recycling equipment. See RECOVERY, EVACUATION & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in GENERAL SERVICING. Remove compressor drive belt. Remove bolts and power steering fluid reservoir. See Fig 1. Remove bolts and power steering fluid reservoir bracket. See Fig 2. Disconnect A/C clutch coil connector. See Fig 3. Remove manifold and tube assembly bolt. Disconnect manifold and tube assembly. See Fig 4.
  2. Remove pin-type retainers and position aside inner fender well access cover. See Fig 5. Disconnect A/C clutch coil connector. The 2 lower nuts and studs are accessible through inner fender well. Remove 4 nuts, 4 studs and A/C compressor. See Fig 6. Discard "O" rings. Plug manifold openings.
