Items 23-17: Timing Components Installation Note

Install the timing chain tensioner and bolts.

If necessary, retract the tensioner pad retracting mechanism and insert a retaining pin.

Rotate the crankshaft so the number one piston is at top dead center (TDC) and the key is at the 12 o'clock position.

Turn the camshaft gear so that the timing mark is on the bottom of the balance shaft.

Install the timing chain, crankshaft gear and camshaft gear as an assembly.

Make sure that the timing marks and the keyways are aligned.

Remove the retaining pin.

Install the synchronizer drive gear.
