Pinpoint Test F: The Washer Pump Is Inoperative

  1. F1 RETRIEVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) 
    • Retrieve and document continuous DTCs.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Clear Continuous DTCs.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: SJB Wiper/Washer Self-Test.
    • Are DTCs recorded? 
    • Yes  : If DTC B1458, CARRY OUT the washer relay component test. Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for component testing. If the relay tests OK, GO to F2.

      If DTC B1460, GO to  F4.

    • No  : CARRY OUT the washer relay component test. Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for component testing. If the relay tests OK, GO to  F5.
  2. F2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE WASHER PUMP RELAY COIL 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Washer Pump Relay.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and washer pump relay pin 2, circuit 1671 (RD).

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to F3.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 1671 (RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. F3 CHECK CIRCUIT 686 (TN/RD) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280a.
    • Measure the resistance between washer pump relay pin 1, circuit 686 (TN/RD) and SJB C2280a-12, circuit 686 (TN/RD).

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  F10.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 686 (TN/RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. F4 CHECK CIRCUIT 686 (TN/RD) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Washer Pump Relay.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280a.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and washer pump relay pin 1, circuit 686 (TN/RD).

    • Is voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 686 (TN/RD) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : GO to  F10.
  5. F5 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE WASHER PUMP RELAY SWITCH 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Washer Pump Relay.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and washer pump relay pin 3, circuit 1671 (RD).

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to F6.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 1671 (RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. F6 CHECK THE WASHER PUMP 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Washer Pump Relay.
    • Connect a fused jumper wire between washer pump relay pin 1, circuit 686 (TN/RD) and washer pump relay pin 3, circuit 1671 (RD).

    • Key in ON position.
    • Does the washer pump motor operate? 
    • Yes  : CARRY OUT the multi-function switch component test. Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for component testing. If the switch tests OK, GO to  F9.
    • No  : GO to F7.
  7. F7 CHECK THE GROUND TO THE WASHER PUMP MOTOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Washer Pump C137.
    • Measure the resistance between ground and washer pump motor C137-2, circuit 57 (BK).

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to F8.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. F8 CHECK CIRCUIT 941 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between washer pump relay pin 3, circuit 941 (BK/WH) and washer pump motor C137-1, circuit 941 (BK/WH).

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new washer pump. REFER to WASHER PUMP AND RESERVOIR . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 941 (BK/WH) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. F9 CHECK CIRCUIT 950 (WH/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280d.
    • Disconnect: Multi-function Switch C202a.
    • Measure the resistance between multi-function switch C202a-5, circuit 950 (WH/BK) and SJB C2280d-14, circuit 950 (WH/BK).

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to F10.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 950 (WH/BK) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  10. F10 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion.
      • Pushed-out pins.
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES .

      CLEAR the DTCs, REPEAT the self-test.

    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
