Pinpoint Test B: The Wipers Stay On Continuously

  1. B1 RETRIEVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) 
    • Retrieve and document continuous DTCs.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Clear Continuous DTCs.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: SJB Wiper/Washer Self-Test.
    • Are DTCs present? 
    • Yes  : If DTC B1431, GO to B2.

      If DTC B1446, GO to  B3.

      If DTC B2179, B2180, B2181 or B2183, GO to  B6.

    • No  : CARRY OUT the run/park relay component test. Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for component testing. If the relay tests OK, GO to  B7.
  2. B2 CHECK CIRCUIT 646 (YE/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Wiper Run/Park Relay.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280a.
    • Measure the resistance between ground and wiper run/park relay pin 2, circuit 646 (YE/WH).

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B8.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 646 (YE/WH) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. B3 CHECK CIRCUIT 671 (LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280a.
    • Disconnect: Wiper Motor C125.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and wiper motor C125-5, circuit 671 (LB).

    • Is voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 671 (LB) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : GO to B4.
  4. B4 CHECK CIRCUIT 28 (BK/PK) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Wiper Run/Park Relay.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and wiper run/park relay pin 3, circuit 28 (BK/PK).

    • Is voltage present? 
    • Yes  : GO to B5.
    • No  : GO to  B8.
  5. B5 CHECK CIRCUIT 28 (BK/PK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Wiper High/Low Relay.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and wiper run/park relay pin 3, circuit 28 (BK/PK).

    • Is voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 28 (BK/PK) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 58 (WH) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. B6 CHECK CIRCUITS 61 (YE/RD), 63 (RD), 65 (DG) AND 680 (LB/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280d.
    • Disconnect: Multi-function Switch C202a.
    • Measure the resistance between ground and multi-function switch:
      • (DTC B2179) C202a-1, circuit 61 (YE/RD).
      • (DTC B2180) C202a-2, circuit 65 (DG).
      • (DTC B2181) C202a-3, circuit 63 (RD).
      • (DTC B2183) C202a-4, circuit 680 (LB/OG).

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : CARRY OUT the multi-function switch component test. Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for component testing. If the switch tests OK, GO to  B8.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 61 (YE/RD), 63 (RD), 65 (DG) or 680 (LB/OG) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. B7 CHECK CIRCUIT 56 (DB/OG) FOR A SHORT TO POWER 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Wiper High/Low Relay.
    • Disconnect: Wiper Motor C125.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and wiper high/low relay pin 5, circuit 56 (DB/OG).

    • Is voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 56 (DB/OG) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : GO to B8.
  8. B8 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion.
      • Pushed-out pins.
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES .

      CLEAR the DTCs, REPEAT the self-test.

    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
