Pinpoint Test E: The Demand Lighting Is Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- E1 CHECK THE DEMAND LIGHTING FOR CORRECT OPERATION NOTE: The battery saver relay must be activated on.
- Open the glove compartment and observe the lamp on.
- Operate the front row map lamps.
- Are all the demand lights operating correctly?
- Yes : The demand lighting system is OK.
- No : For a single lamp inoperative, GO to E2. For multiple lamps inoperative, GO to E4 .
- E2 CHECK CIRCUIT 705 (LG/OG) FOR AN OPEN NOTE: The battery saver relay must be activated on.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Demand Lamp.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b pin 5, circuit 705 (LG/OG) harness side and the inoperative demand lamp, harness side. Refer to the following table for correct connector, pin and circuit.
Location Connector Pin Circuit Glove Compartment C254 1 705 (LG/OG) Front Map Lamp(s) C931b 1 705 (LG/OG) - Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to E3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- E3 CHECK CIRCUIT 705 (LG/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b pin 5, circuit 705 (LG/OG) harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : INSTALL a new lamp and switch assembly in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- E4 CHECK CIRCUIT 705 (LG/OG) FOR AN OPEN NOTE: The battery saver relay must be activated on.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Demand Lamp.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b pin 5, circuit 705 (LG/OG), harness side and the inoperative demand lamp, harness side. Refer to the following table for correct connector, pin and circuit.
Location Connector Pin Circuit Glove Compartment C254 1 705 (LG/OG) Front Map Lamp(s) C931b 1 705 (LG/OG) - Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to E5.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- E5 CHECK CIRCUIT 705 (LG/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280b pin 5, circuit 705 (LG/OG), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to E6.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- E6 CHECK THE BATTERY SAVER RELAY
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Battery Saver Relay.
- Carry out the relay component test.
Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for schematic and connector information.
- Does the battery saver relay pass the component test?
- Yes : GO to E7.
- No : INSTALL a new battery saver relay. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- E7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes
: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES
.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
