Pinpoint Test N: The Exterior Lamps Are Always On

  1. N1 USE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE SJB SELF-TEST 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Using the recorded results from the SJB self-test:
    • Were any DTCs recorded? 
    1. Yes 

      If DTC C1962, GO to N2.

      All others, GO to the SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  for correct diagnosis.

    2. No  : GO to  N4.
  2. N2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
    • Do the exterior lamps continue to illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : GO to N3.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to LAMP SWITCH - HEADLAMP . TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. N3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1032 (WH/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280d.
    • Measure the resistance between the headlamp switch C205 pin 3, circuit 1032 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to N4.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. N4 CHECK CIRCUIT 962 (BN/WH) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: SJB fuse 2 (10A).
    • Do the exterior lamps continue to illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : GO to N5.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal.
  5. N5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1339 (BK/PK) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280c.
    • Do the rear parking lamps continue to illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to N6.
  6. N6 CHECK CIRCUIT 14 (BN) FOR SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280a.
    • Do the front parking lamps continue to illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : GO to N7.
  7. N7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect all SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
