Fuel Gauge

The fuel gage is an ohmmeter that reads the resistance of the fuel tank sending unit. The fuel sending unit is a variable resistor which is controlled by the action of a float arm. When the fuel level is low, resistance in the unit is low (22.4 ohms). When the fuel level is high, the resistance is high (145 ohms). Proper fuel gauge indication requires the ignition switch to be in the OFF or ACC positions during refueling, otherwise correct fuel indication after refueling, can be slow to update. A minimum of 3 gallons of fuel is needed for correct fuel gauge indication after refueling.
