Pinpoint Test R: The Safety Belt Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

  1. R1 CARRY OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME ACTIVE COMMAND 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Active Command.
    • Select the instrument cluster warning lamps and chime active command. Trigger the all lamps active command ON and OFF. Observe the safety belt warning indicator.
    • Does the safety belt warning indicator illuminate when triggered ON, and turn off when triggered OFF? 
    1. Yes  : GO to R2.
    2. No  : GO to  R8.
  2. R2 DETERMINE THE CONDITION 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Observe the safety belt warning indicator while buckling and unbuckling the driver safety belt.
    • Is the safety belt warning indicator always on? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  R6.
    2. No  : GO to R3.
  3. R3 CHECK CIRCUIT 469 (LG) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Safety Belt Switch C3014.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the safety belt switch C3014 pin 4, harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 8.3 volts? 
    1. Yes  : GO to R4.
    2. No  : GO to  R5.
  4. R4 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Driver Safety Belt Switch C3014.
    • Measure the resistance between the driver safety belt switch C3014 pin 2, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new driver safety belt switch. REFER to SAFETY BELT SYSTEM . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. R5 CHECK CIRCUIT 469 (LG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220a pin 9, circuit 469 (LG), harness side and the safety belt buckle switch C3014 pin 4, circuit 469 (LG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  R8.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. R6 CHECK THE SAFETY BELT BUCKLE SWITCH 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Safety Belt Buckle Switch C3014.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Observe the safety belt warning indicator.
    • Does the safety belt warning indicator continue to illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : GO to R7.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new safety belt buckle switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. R7 CHECK CIRCUIT 469 (LG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220a pin 9, circuit 469 (LG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to R8.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. R8 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
    • Corrosion
    • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the instrument cluster self-test.
