Pinpoint Test J: The High Beam Indicator Is Never On

- J1 CHECK FOR CORRECT HIGH BEAM OPERATION
- Turn the headlamp switch to the headlamps ON position.
- Set the multifunction switch to the high beam position.
- Do the high beams operate correctly?
- Yes : GO to J2.
- No : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING to continue diagnosis of the high beams.
- J2 CHECK FOR POWER TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220b pin 11, circuit 932 (GY/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to J4.
- No : GO to J3.
- J3 CHECK CIRCUIT 932 (GY/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b pin 11, circuit 932 (GY/WH), harness side and the SJB C2280a pin 21, circuit 932 (GY/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to J5.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- J4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Incorrectly installed bulb sockets
- Burnt-out bulbs
- Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the instrument cluster self-test.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- J5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
