Pinpoint Test H: The Anti-Lock Brake System (Abs) Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

- H1 CARRY OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SELF-TEST USING THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Active Command.
- Select the instrument cluster warning lamps active command. Trigger the all lamps active command ON and then OFF. Observe the ABS warning indicator.
- Does the ABS warning indicator illuminate when commanded on, and turn off when commanded off?
- Yes : GO to H2.
- No : GO to H10.
- H2 RETRIEVE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER RECORDED DTCS FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND SELF-TESTS
- Use the recorded instrument cluster DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-test.
- Is DTC C1221 present?
- Yes : GO to H5.
- No : If the ABS warning indicator is never on, GO to H3. If the ABS warning indicator is always on, GO to H6.
- H3 VERIFY THE ABS MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
- Key in ON position.
- Observe the ABS warning indicator.
- Does the ABS warning indicator illuminate?
- Yes : GO to H11.
- No : GO to H4.
- H4 CHECK CIRCUIT 603 (DG) FOR VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage between the ABS module C135 pin 17, circuit 603 (DG), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to H11.
- No : GO to H5.
- H5 CHECK CIRCUIT 603 (DG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b pin 18, circuit 603 (DG), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to H10.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- H6 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR
- Key in ON position.
- Observe the brake warning indicator.
- Is the brake warning indicator illuminated?
- Yes : REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK for diagnosis of the communication network. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to H7.
- H7 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND THE ABS MODULE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a, C220b.
- Connect: ABS Module C135.
- Connect: Instrument Cluster C220a, C220b.
- Key in ON position.
- Observe the ABS warning indicator.
- Does the ABS warning indicator prove-out correctly?
- Yes : System is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
- No : GO to H8.
- H8 CHECK THE ABS MODULE CIRCUIT 603 (DG)
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
- Key in ON position.
- Connect a fused (10A) jumper wire between the ABS module C135 pin 17, circuit 603 (DG), harness side and ground. Observe the ABS warning indicator.
- Does the ABS warning indicator turn off?
- Yes : GO to H11.
- No : REMOVE the jumper wire, GO to H9.
- H9 CHECK CIRCUIT 603 (DG) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b pin 18, circuit 603 (DG), harness side and the ABS module C135 pin 17, circuit 603 (DG), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to H10.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- H10 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the PCM self-test.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- H11 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all ABS module connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all ABS module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-THEFT . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the PCM self-test.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
