Pinpoint Test A: Clutch Slippage

  1. A1 INSPECT THE CLUTCH LINKAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Block the wheels and apply the parking brake.
    • Depress and slowly release the clutch pedal.
    • Does the clutch pedal release without binding? 
    1. Yes  : GO to A2.
    2. No  : INSPECT the clutch pedal. REFER to CLUTCH CONTROLS .
  2. A2 CHECK THE CLUTCH PEDAL 
    • Disconnect the master cylinder from the clutch pedal.
    • Depress and slowly release the clutch pedal.
    • Does the clutch pedal operate without binding? 
    1. Yes  : GO to A3.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new clutch pedal. REFER to DISC & DRUM .
  3. A3 CHECK THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depress and release the clutch pedal.
    • Open the bleed screw.
    • Is there residual hydraulic pressure at the bleed screw? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new clutch master cylinder. REFER to CLUTCH CONTROLS .
    2. No  : GO to A4.
  4. A4 CARRY OUT A STALL TEST 
    • Key in START position.
    • Block the wheels and apply the parking brake.
    • Place transmission in fourth gear.
    • Increase engine to 2,000 RPM and slowly release the clutch pedal.
    • Does the engine stall within five seconds? 
    1. Yes  : The clutch is not slipping. VERIFY customer concern.
    2. No  : INSPECT the clutch components for damage.
