Removal and Installation

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to ENGINE 4.0L SOHC .
- Disconnect the six fuel injector electrical connectors.
- Remove the bolt.
- Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector.
- Disconnect the radio interference capacitor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector and the water temperature indicator sender unit connector.
- Disconnect the differential pressure feedback transducer electrical connector and the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the drive belt tensioner. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING .
- Disconnect the generator wiring and position the wiring aside.
- Remove the generator mounting bracket.
- Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector and release the pin-type retainer and the transmission line routing clip.
- Remove the HO2S wiring anchor from the cover stud.
- Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the wiring anchors and position the wiring aside.
- Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector from the RH side of the transmission and release the wiring pin-type retainer from the bracket.
- Disconnect the electrical connector on the crossmember.
- Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
- Release the transmission/transfer case portion of the wiring harness from any routing clips or push-pins.
- Route the transmission/transfer case portion of the wiring harness to the top of the engine.
- Remove the wiring harness from the vehicle.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
