Removal and Installation

- Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING - 3.0L AND 4.0L .
- Remove the fan shroud. For additional information, refer to COOLING FAN SHROUD - 3.0L AND 4.0L .
- Remove the belt idler pulley.
- Slide the water bypass hose clamp back.
- Disconnect the heater hose at the water pump.
- Release the clamp.
- Remove the hose.
- Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the water pump.
- Release the clamp.
- Remove the hose.
- Remove the water pump pulley.
- Remove the water pump.
- Clean all the sealing surfaces.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
Use care when scraping the water pump-to-engine block mating surfaces. Gouges in the aluminum could form leak paths.
