Removal and Installation

- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Detach the accelerator cable from the throttle body and the accelerator cable bracket.
- Loosen the bolt and disconnect the electrical connector.
- Disconnect the vapor hose end from the intake manifold.
- Disconnect the vapor hose end and the pin-type retainer and remove the vapor hose.
- Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the differential pressure feedback exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.
- Remove the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid valve.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Disconnect the vacuum connection.
- Remove the retaining bolts and the solenoid valve.
- Disconnect the fuel tube push connect coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Remove the fuel supply tube bracket bolt and position the supply tube aside.
- Remove the bolt and position the fuel supply tube aside.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose and the EGR tube fitting from the EGR valve.
- Remove the bolt and position the electrical connector aside. Disconnect the radio interference capacitor electrical connector.
- Carry out the following:
- Detach the two spark plug wire retainers.
- Disconnect the LH spark plug wires from the ignition coil.
CAUTION: It is important to twist the spark plug wire boots while pulling upward to avoid possible damage to the spark plug wire.NOTE: Spark plug wires must be connected to the correct ignition coil terminal. Mark spark plug wire locations before removing them. - Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector.
- Remove the ignition coil bracket lower bolts.
- Remove the ignition coil bracket upper bolts and position the ignition coil aside.
- Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.
- Disconnect the PCV hose from the valve.
- Remove the PCV valve from the valve cover and position aside.
- Disconnect the LH fuel injector electrical connectors and detach the wire harness pin-type retainer on the valve cover stud.
- Remove the bolts and the valve cover.
- To install, reverse removal procedure.
