Section 462 (Engine - 3.0L (2V)): Installation: Engine

MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

Item Specification
Super Premium SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP or equivalent WSS-M2C153-H

    ALL VEHICLES 

    NOTE: For vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, make sure the torque converter stud and the flexplate marks made during removal are aligned.
  1. Position the engine in the vehicle.
  2. Install the four nuts.

  3. Install the eight transmission-to-engine bolts.

  4. VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 

  5. Install the transmission cooler line bracket and bolt.

  6. Install the four torque converter nuts.
    • Install the nuts.
    • Install the access plate.

  7. ALL VEHICLES 

  8. Install the starter motor. For additional information, refer to STARTERS .
  9. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.

  10. Connect the dual converter Y-pipe and install the nuts.
  11. Install the LH heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). For additional information, refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS .
  12. Connect the engine sensor control wiring to the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.

  13. Connect the vacuum hose to the vacuum reservoir.

  14. Connect the transmission wiring harness connectors.

  15. Connect both heated oxygen sensor electrical connectors.

  16. Position and connect the generator wiring harness. For additional information, refer to GENERATORS & REGULATORS .
  17. Install the powertrain control module ground strap.

  18. Install the powertrain control module wiring bracket.
  19. Connect the engine control wiring harness to the powertrain control module (PCM).

  20. Connect the fuel tubes. For additional information, refer to FUEL TANK & LINES .
  21. Install the ground cable.

  22. Install the PCM wiring harness.

  23. Position the A/C compressor and A/C compressor mounting bracket as an assembly and install the bolts.

  24. Install the stud bolts to the A/C compressor mounting bracket.

  25. Position the wiring harness bracket and the fuel tube bracket and install the nuts.

  26. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  27. Install the fuel tube bracket.

  28. Position the A/C suction/discharge tube and install the nut.

  29. Connect the A/C tube at the accumulator.

  30. Install the suction/discharge manifold on the A/C compressor. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING .
  31. Connect the engine sensor control wiring to the A/C cut-out switch.
  32. Connect the heater hoses.

  33. Install the radiator. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  34. Install the fan shroud.
    • Position the fan shroud.
    • Install the bolts.

  35. CAUTION: The fan clutch has left hand threads.

  36. Using the special tool, install the fan clutch and the fan blade.
  37. Install the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING .
  38. Connect the upper radiator hose and the lower radiator hose to the radiator. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  39. Install the upper intake manifold. For additional information, refer to UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD .
  40. Install the hood.
  41. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
  42. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  43. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  44. Charge the A/C system. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  45. Inspect the engine and cooling system for leaks.
  46. NOTE: The starter must be removed to gain access to all the oil pan bolts. For additional information, refer to STARTERS .
    NOTE: This step is required only if the oil pan was off during engine removal.
  47. After the engine has warmed to operating temperature, retighten the oil pan bolts starting from the rear of the oil pan and work forward.
    • Tighten the oil pan bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb-in).
