Section 462 (Engine - 3.0L (2V)): Installation: Engine

- Position the engine in the vehicle.
- Install the four nuts.
- Install the eight transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Install the transmission cooler line bracket and bolt.
- Install the four torque converter nuts.
- Install the nuts.
- Install the access plate.
- Install the starter motor. For additional information, refer to STARTERS .
- Connect the dual converter Y-pipe and install the nuts.
- Install the LH heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). For additional information, refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS .
- Connect the engine sensor control wiring to the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
- Connect the vacuum hose to the vacuum reservoir.
- Connect the transmission wiring harness connectors.
- Connect both heated oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
- Position and connect the generator wiring harness. For additional information, refer to GENERATORS & REGULATORS .
- Install the powertrain control module ground strap.
- Install the powertrain control module wiring bracket.
- Connect the engine control wiring harness to the powertrain control module (PCM).
- Connect the fuel tubes. For additional information, refer to FUEL TANK & LINES .
- Install the ground cable.
- Install the PCM wiring harness.
- Position the A/C compressor and A/C compressor mounting bracket as an assembly and install the bolts.
- Install the stud bolts to the A/C compressor mounting bracket.
- Position the wiring harness bracket and the fuel tube bracket and install the nuts.
- Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
- Install the fuel tube bracket.
- Position the A/C suction/discharge tube and install the nut.
- Connect the A/C tube at the accumulator.
- Install the suction/discharge manifold on the A/C compressor. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING .
- Connect the engine sensor control wiring to the A/C cut-out switch.
- Connect the heater hoses.
- Install the radiator. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Install the fan shroud.
- Position the fan shroud.
- Install the bolts.
- Using the special tool, install the fan clutch and the fan blade.
- Install the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING .
- Connect the upper radiator hose and the lower radiator hose to the radiator. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Install the upper intake manifold. For additional information, refer to UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD .
- Install the hood.
- Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
- Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Fill and bleed the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Charge the A/C system. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Inspect the engine and cooling system for leaks.
- After the engine has warmed to operating temperature, retighten the oil pan bolts starting from the rear of the oil pan and work forward.
- Tighten the oil pan bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb-in).

For vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, make sure the torque converter stud and the flexplate marks made during removal are aligned.

CAUTION:
The fan clutch has left hand threads.
NOTE:
The starter must be removed to gain access to all the oil pan bolts. For additional information, refer to STARTERS
