Upper Intake Manifold: Removal

- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
- Remove the bolt and the snow shield.
- Disconnect the accelerator cable, speed control cable and the return spring.
- Disconnect the accelerator cable and speed control cable from the accelerator bracket.
- Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor and idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the two vacuum hoses.
- Detach the 42-pin wiring harness retainer from the stud bolt.
- Remove the nut and the stud bolt.
- Position the 42-pin wiring harness and bracket aside.
- Remove the oil indicator tube bracket nut and the upper intake manifold support bracket stud bolt.
- Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve tube.
- Remove the bolts, the stud bolt and the upper intake manifold.
- Remove and discard the gaskets.
- Clean and inspect all mating surfaces.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
Install new gaskets and tighten the upper intake manifold bolts and stud bolt in the sequence shown.
