Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the flywheel or flexplate. For additional information, refer to GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS - CRANKSHAFT AND FLYWHEEL .
  2. CAUTION: Tape the U-joint bearing caps to prevent them from falling off the U-joints
    CAUTION: Index-mark the front axle pinion flange to the front driveshaft.
  3. Remove the front driveshaft from the front axle pinion flange.
    • Discard the bolts and straps.

  4. Drain the engine oil.
  5. Secure the front axle housing to a suitable jack.

  6. Remove the three axle housing mounting bolts and lower the axle housing approximately two inches.

  7. Remove the oil pan bolts and the oil pan.

  8. Remove and discard the oil pan gasket.
