Cylinder Head: Installation

- Clean all the sealing surfaces.
- Check the cylinder head for flatness. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Install new cylinder head gaskets.
- Install the cylinder heads.
- Install the bolts.
- Tighten the bolts in five stages in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Loosen the bolts one full turn.
- Stage 3: Tighten to 30 N.m (22 lb-ft).
- Stage 4: Tighten the bolts 90 degrees.
- Stage 5: Tighten the bolts an additional 90 degrees.
- Install the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD .
- Install the exhaust manifolds. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD RH .
- Install the A/C compressor mounting bracket.
- Install the stud bolts to the A/C compressor mounting bracket.
- Position the wiring harness bracket and the fuel tube bracket and install the nuts.
- Install the push rods and the rocker arms.
- Install the generator mounting bracket.
- Install the bolts.
- Install the power steering pump. For additional information, refer to POWER STEERING .
- Install the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATORS & REGULATORS .
- Install the A/C compressor. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING .
- Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Drain the engine oil.
- Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
- Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to POWER STEERING .
- Charge the A/C system. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING .
NOTE:
The "V" notch in the head gasket faces the front of the engine.
