In-Vehicle Repair: Camshaft: Removal

  1. Remove the radiator assembly. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  2. Remove the hydraulic lash adjusters. For additional information, refer to HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTERS .
  3. Remove the timing chain. For additional information, refer to TIMING CHAIN .
  4. Remove the camshaft synchronizer assembly. For additional information, refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS .
  5. Remove the bolts and the camshaft thrust plate.

  6. CAUTION: Damage to the camshaft and/or the camshaft bearings can occur if the camshaft is allowed to drop on the bearing surface or cylinder block.

  7. Remove the camshaft.
