Exhaust Manifold: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in Neutral, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to IDENTIFICATION CODES .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  3. Remove the exhaust flange nuts.

  4. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING .
  5. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  6. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the engine reservoir hose.

  7. Remove the A/C compressor. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING .
  8. Disconnect the heater hose.

  9. Remove the oil level indicator and the upper bolt for the tube assembly.

  10. Remove the lower bolt and remove the oil level indicator tube assembly.

  11. Remove the bolts and the front coolant outlet pipe.

  12. Remove the pushpins and position the right inner fender splash shield out of the way.

  13. Disconnect the alternator electrical connectors.

  14. Remove the lower front end accessory drive (FEAD) mounting bolts.

  15. Remove the upper mounting bolt and the FEAD assembly.

  16. Remove the two nuts and position the coolant tube out of the way.

  18. Remove the nuts and the exhaust manifold.
  19. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.
