Front Seat Cushion - Driver

WARNING: Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an air bag module. This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

WARNING: Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury.

WARNING: The safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling a safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not use any memory saver devices.

WARNING: After deployment, the air bag surface can contain deposits of sodium hydroxide, a product of the gas generant combustion that is irritating to the skin. Wash your hands with soap and water afterwards.

CAUTION: Do not handle or lift the seat by the inboard side shield or a torque tube (seat track motor cable and housing). Care must be taken when handling or lifting the seat to prevent damage.

NOTE: If a side air bag deployment took place, the seatback pad, trim cover and side air bag module must be replaced. The seatback frame should be replaced if necessary.

NOTE: If a seat equipped with a seat mounted side air bag and/or a safety belt pretensioner (if equipped) system is being serviced, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) must be depowered.

NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.

NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

Remove the driver seat and depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to DRIVER SEAT .
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the front seat when servicing the power seat switch or power lumbar switch.
- When servicing only the power seat switch or power lumbar switch, depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .

Disassemble the parts in the order listed in the following illustration and table.

To remove individual parts, only carry out the listed steps:

To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
Install the driver seat and repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to DRIVER SEAT .

Item 8: Side Shield Screw Disassembly Note

Remove the screw from behind the bezel.

Item 18: Manual Lumbar Adjuster Disassembly Note

Release the manual lumbar adjustment screw.
1. From inside the lumbar adjustment mechanism, push the screw stop in toward the center.
2. While pushing the screw stop toward the center, rotate the lumbar adjustment mechanism counterclockwise.
3. The screw stop will pass clear of the internal stop, releasing the manual lumbar adjustment screw.

Remove the manual lumbar cable.
1. Continue turning the manual lumbar mechanism counterclockwise until the cable support comes out.
2. Push the screw out enough to remove the cable end.

Route the manual lumbar adjuster cable out from the seat cushion frame.

Item 19: Power Seat Track Nut Disassembly Note

Remove the seat track and the nuts.
1. Detach the wire harness retainer from the seat track-to-cushion stud.
2. Remove the four seat track-to-cushion nuts (three shown).
3. Remove the seat track.

Item 25: Connector Disassembly Note

Separate the connectors from the seat cushion frame.

Item 33: Climate Controlled Seat Cushion Duct Assembly Note

NOTE: Some vehicles may exhibit a condition where one or both climate controlled seats turn OFF shortly after initialization with CCSM DTC(s) present. If this condition exists, a climate controlled seat modification may be required. Inspect the climate controlled seat for airflow restrictions due to seat cushion crush or seat cushion duct damage. Repair the climate controlled seat duct and lower ventilation air blower assembly as indicated in this procedure.

NOTE: Inspect the climate controlled seat cushion duct for damage or collapse, especially near the duct-to-thermo electric device (TED) connection, and install a new duct (19N550) if needed.

Install the climate controlled seat cushion duct to the cushion foam pad.

Item 26: Lower Ventilation Air Blower Assembly Assembly Note

NOTE: Some vehicles may exhibit a condition where one or both climate controlled seats turn OFF shortly after initialization with CCSM DTC(s) present. If this condition exists, a climate controlled seat modification may be required. Inspect the climate controlled seat for airflow restrictions due to seat cushion crush or seat cushion duct damage. Repair the climate controlled seat cushion duct and lower ventilation air blower assembly as indicated in this procedure.

CAUTION: If the TED riser does not have a center-boss area as that shown in the graphic (round hole at the center), the TED has been previously modified or an updated service part has been previously installed. Do not cut the riser of a previously modified TED or updated service part.

NOTE: Inspect the climate controlled seat cushion duct for damage or collapse, especially near the duct-to-thermo electric device (TED) connection, and install a new seat cushion duct (19N550) if needed.

If equipped with the style TED shown and the climate controlled seat cushion duct is damaged or restricted causing climate controlled seat module (CCSM) DTC(s) to be set, carry out the following steps.
1. Scribe a line 6.35 mm (1/4 in) below the top of the TED riser (part of the lower ventilation air blower assembly)(19N550) as shown.
2. Cover the TED openings and seal the area of the TED below the scribed line with a shop towel or appropriate material to prevent any cuttings, filings or foreign material from entering into the TED.
3. Using an appropriate tool, carefully cut off the top of the TED riser where scribed and discard.
4. Remove any remaining edge burs and any debris from the TED and lower ventilation air blower assembly before removing the shop toweling or coverings.
5. Check for and remove any remaining debris in the TED and lower ventilation air blower assembly before installing to the seat cushion duct.

Install the lower ventilation air blower assembly to the seat cushion pan.
