Pinpoint Test M: The Right Rear Heated Seat Is Inoperative: Overview

- M1 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT SWITCH INPUT TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Right Rear Heated Seat Module C3163.
- Measure the resistance between right rear heated seat module C3163-8, circuit 8-HC21 (WH/GN), and C3163-11, circuit 10-HC21A (GY/OG), harness side and ground while pressing the heated seat switch.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms when the heated seat switch is pressed?
- Yes : GO to M3.
- No : GO to M2.
- M2 CHECK HEATED SEAT SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT 31-HC21 (BK/GN)
- Disconnect: Right Rear Heated Seat Switch C822.
- Measure the resistance between right rear heated seat switch C822-1, circuit 31-HC21 (BK/GN), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : INSTALL a new heated seat switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR circuit 31-HC21 (BK/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
- M3 CHECK CIRCUIT 30-HC21 (RD/GN) FOR VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE
- Measure the voltage between right rear heated seat module C3163-12, circuit 30-HC21 (RD/GN), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to M4.
- No : REPAIR circuit 30-HC21 (RD/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
- M4 CHECK CIRCUIT 20-HC21D (PK/BK) FOR VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between right rear heated seat module C3163-5, circuit 20-HC21D (PK/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to M5.
- No : REPAIR circuit 20-HC21D (PK/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
- M5 CHECK HEATED SEAT MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT 31-HC21 (BK/GN)
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between right rear heated seat module C3163-1, circuit 31-HC21 (BK/GN), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to M6.
- No : REPAIR circuit 31-HC21 (BK/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
- M6 CHECK THE SEAT CUSHION HEATER AND THE SEAT BACK HEATER CIRCUITS
- Measure the resistance between the right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 20-HC17 (PK), harness side and C3163-7, circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU), harness side; and between the right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 20-HC17 (PK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 1.6 ohms and less than 10 ohms between C3163-6 and C3163-7 and greater than 10,000 ohms between C3163-6 and ground?
- Yes : GO to M7.
- No : GO to M12.
- M7 CHECK THE SEAT CUSHION HEATER AND THE SEAT BACK HEATER CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 20-HC17 (PK), harness side and ground and between C3163-7, circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.
- Is voltage present on either circuit?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit 20-HC17 (PK),31S-HC16 (BK/BU) or 20S-HC16 (PK/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to M8.
- M8 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage between the right rear heated seat module C3163-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side and ground and between C3163-4, circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is voltage present on either circuit?
- Yes : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to M9.
- M9 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND CIRCUITS
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the right rear heated seat module C3163-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side and C3163-4, circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK), harness side; and between the right rear heated seat module C3163-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 300,000 ohms and greater than 50 ohms between C3163-3 and C3163-4 and greater than 10,000 ohms between C3163-3 and ground?
- Yes : INSTALL a new right rear heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to M10.
- M10 CHECK CIRCUIT 9-HC23 (BN/YE) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Right Rear Seat Cushion Heater C3169.
- Measure the resistance between the right rear heated seat module C3163-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side and the right rear seat cushion heater C3169-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side; and between the right rear heated seat module C3163-3, circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and the seat cushion heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground?
- Yes : GO to M11.
- No : REPAIR circuit 9-HC23 (BN/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
- M11 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-HC23 (WH/BK) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the right rear heated seat module C3163-4, circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK), harness side and the right rear seat cushion heater C3169-2, circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK), harness side; and between the right rear heated seat module C3163-4, circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and the seat cushion heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground?
- Yes : INSTALL a new right rear seat cushion heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR circuit 8-HC23 (WH/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
- M12 CHECK CIRCUIT 20-HC17 (PK) FOR OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Right Rear Seat Cushion Heater C3169.
- Measure the resistance between right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 20-HC17 (PK), harness side and right rear seat cushion heater C3169-1, circuit 20-HC17 (PK), harness side; and between right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 20-HC17 (PK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 1 ohm between the heated seat module and the seat cushion heater, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground?
- Yes : GO to M13.
- No : REPAIR circuit 20-HC17 (PK).TEST the system for normal operation.
- M13 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-HC16 (BK/BU) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Right Rear Seat Back Heater C3170.
- Measure the resistance between right rear heated seat module C3163-7, circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU), harness side and right rear seat back heater C3170-2, circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU), harness side; and between right rear heated seat module C3163-7, circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and the seat back heater, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground?
- Yes : GO to M14.
- No : REPAIR circuit 31S-HC16 (BK/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
- M14 CHECK CIRCUIT 20S-HC16 (PK/BU) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between right rear seat cushion heater C3169-4, circuit 20S-HC16 (PK/BU), harness side and right rear seat back heater C3170-1, circuit 20S-HC16 (PK/BU), harness side; and between right rear seat cushion heater C3169-4, circuit 20S-HC16 (PK/BU), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the seat cushion heater and the seat back heater, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the seat cushion heater and ground?
- Yes : GO to M15.
- No : REPAIR circuit 20S-HC16 (PK/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
- M15 CHECK THE SEAT BACK HEATER
- Disconnect: Right Seat Back Heater Connector.
- Measure the resistance between right rear seat back heater pin 1 and pin 2, seat back heater component side.
- Is the resistance between 0.6 and 0.9 ohm?
- Yes : INSTALL a new right rear seat cushion heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL a new right rear seat back heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
