Pinpoint Test H: The Power Seat Does Not Move Horizontally/Vertically - Driver: Overview

- H1 CHECK HORIZONTAL DIRECTION MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.NOTE: If a seat equipped with a seat mounted side air bag and/or a safety belt pretensioner (if equipped) system is being serviced, the air bag system must be depowered. Refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag Module C316.
- Connect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-133 or 501-097 to Driver Seat Side Air Bag Module C316.
- Connect: Battery Ground Cable.
- Operate the driver power seat forward and rearward.
- Will the seat move horizontally?
WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected.- Yes : GO to H2.
- No : GO to H3.
- H2 CHECK BACKREST MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION
- Operate the driver power seat backrest up and down.
- Will the seat backrest move up and down?
- H3 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE DRIVER SEAT FORWARD/REVERSE MOTOR
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Forward/Reverse Motor C362.
- Measure the voltage between driver seat forward/reverse motor C362-2, circuit 32-AH37 (WH/GN), harness side and C362-1, circuit 33-AH37 (YE/GN), harness side, while pushing the driver seat control switch forward and rearward.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the switch is pushed forward, greater than -10 volts when the switch is pushed rearward, and 0 volts when the switch is in a rest position?
- Yes : INSTALL a new driver seat forward/reverse motor. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- No : GO to H4.
- H4 CHECK CIRCUIT 32-AH37 (WH/GN) FOR AN OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Forward/Reverse Motor C362.
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C360-3, circuit 32-AH37 (WH/GN), harness side and driver seat forward/reverse motor C362-2, circuit 32-AH37 (WH/GN), harness side; and between driver seat control switch C360-3, circuit 32-AH37 (WH/GN), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the driver seat forward/reverse motor and the driver seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat control switch and ground?
- Yes : GO to H5.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- H5 CHECK CIRCUIT 33-AH37 (YE/GN) FOR AN OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C360-11, circuit 33-AH37 (YE/GN), harness side and driver seat forward/reverse motor C362-1, circuit 33-AH37 (YE/GN), harness side; and between driver seat control switch C360-11, circuit 33-AH37 (YE/GN), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the driver seat forward/reverse motor and the driver seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat control switch and ground?
- Yes : INSTALL a new driver seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- H6 DETERMINE SEAT TILTING FAILURE
- Determine seat tilting failure.
- Can the seat be tilted forward or backward?
- Yes
: If only forward tilting operates, GO to H7.
If only rear tilting operates, GO to H10.
- No : INSTALL a new driver seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- H7 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE DRIVER SEAT REAR HEIGHT MOTOR
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Rear Height Motor C363.
- Measure the voltage between driver seat rear height motor C363-2, circuit 32-AH41 (WH/VT), harness side and C363-1, circuit 33-AH41 (YE/VT), harness side, while depressing the rear tilt switch up and down.
- Is the voltage greater than +10 volts when the rear tilt switch is pressed down, greater than -10 volts when the rear tilt switch is pressed up and 0 volts when the switch is in the rest position?
- Yes : INSTALL a new driver seat rear height motor. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- No : GO to H8.
- H8 CHECK CIRCUIT 32-AH41 (WH/VT) FOR OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C360.
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C360-8, circuit 32-AH41 (WH/VT), harness side and driver seat rear height motor C363-2, circuit 32-AH41 (WH/VT), harness side; and between driver seat control switch C360-8, circuit 32-AH41 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the driver seat rear height motor and the driver seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat control switch and ground?
- Yes : GO to H9.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- H9 CHECK CIRCUIT 33-AH41 (YE/VT) FOR OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C360-9, circuit 33-AH41 (YE/VT), harness side and driver seat rear height motor C363-1, circuit 33-AH41 (YE/VT), harness side; and between driver seat control switch C360-9, circuit 33-AH41 (YE/VT), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the driver seat rear height motor and the driver seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat control switch and ground?
- Yes : INSTALL a new driver seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- H10 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO DRIVER SEAT FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Front Height Motor C382.
- Measure the voltage between driver seat front height motor C382-2, circuit 33-AH38 (YE/BK), harness side and C382-1, circuit 32-AH38 (WH/BK), while pushing the rear tilting switch up and down.
- Is the voltage greater than +10 volts when the front tilt switch is pressed down, greater than -10 volts when the front tilt switch is pressed up and 0 volts when the switch is in the rest position?
- Yes : INSTALL a new driver seat front height motor. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- No : GO to H11.
- H11 CHECK CIRCUIT 32-AH38 (WH/BK) FOR OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C360.
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C360-5, circuit 32-AH38 (WH/BK), harness side and driver seat front height motor C382-1, circuit 32-AH38 (WH/BK), harness side; and between driver seat control switch C360-5, circuit 32-AH38 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the driver seat front height motor and the driver seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat control switch and ground?
- Yes : GO to H12.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- H12 CHECK CIRCUIT 33-AH38 (YE/BK) FOR OPEN
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C360-4, circuit 33-AH38 (YE/BK) harness side, and driver seat front height motor C382-2, circuit 33-AH38 (YE/BK), harness side; and between driver seat control switch C360-4, circuit 33-AH38 (YE/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the driver seat front height motor and the driver seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat control switch and ground?
- Yes INSTALL a new driver seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- H13 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO DRIVER SEAT BACKREST MOTOR
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Backrest Motor C368.
- Measure the voltage between driver seat backrest motor C368-1, circuit 32-AH36 (WH/RD), harness side and C363-2, circuit 33-AH36 (YE/RD), while pushing the backrest switch forward and rearward.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the switch is pushed forward, greater than -10 volts when the switch is pushed rearward, and 0 volts when the switch is in a rest position?
- Yes : INSTALL a new driver seat backrest motor. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- No : GO to H14.
- H14 CHECK CIRCUIT 32-AH36 (WH/RD) FOR OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C360.
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C360-12, circuit 32-AH36 (WH/RD), harness side and driver seat backrest motor C368-1, circuit 32-AH36 (WH/RD), harness side; and between driver seat control switch C360-12, circuit 32-AH36 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the driver seat backrest motor and the driver seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat control switch and ground?
- Yes : GO to H15.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- H15 CHECK CIRCUIT 33-AH36 (YE/RD) FOR OPEN
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C360-7, circuit 33-AH36 (YE/RD) harness side, and driver seat backrest motor C368-2, circuit 33-AH36 (YE/RD), harness side; and between driver seat control switch C360-7, circuit 33-AH36 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the driver seat backrest motor and the driver seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the seat control switch and ground?
- Yes : INSTALL a new driver seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
