Pinpoint Test W: The Headlamps Do Not Illuminate When The Wipers Are On

  1. W1 CHECK THE HEADLAMPS FOR NORMAL OPERATION 
    • Turn the headlamp switch to the ON position.
    • Do the headlamps illuminate? 
    1. Yes  : GO to W2.
    2. No  : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING - LS to correctly diagnose the headlamps.
  2. W2 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-KA5 (WH/BK) FOR A GROUND SIGNAL 
    • Disconnect: FEM C201f.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Turn the multifunction switch to the LO position
    • NOTE: Wait a minimum of 10 seconds before performing this step.
    • Measure the resistance between the FEM C201f-10, circuit 8-KA5 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  W4.
    2. No  : GO to W3.
  3. W3 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-KA5 (WH/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
    • Measure the resistance between the FEM C201f-10, circuit 8-KA5 (WH/BK), harness side and the windshield wiper motor C125-2, circuit 8-KA5 (WH/BK), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  W5.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. W4 CHECK FOR CORRECT FEM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all FEM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all FEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new FEM. REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - LS for the removal and installation procedure. TEST the system for normal operation
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. W5 CHECK FOR CORRECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : GO to W6.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. W6 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
    • Carry out the windshield wiper motor component test as described.
    • Did the windshield wiper motor pass the component test? 
    1. Yes  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a binding or incorrect pivot arm adjustment. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER . TEST the system for normal operation.
