Pinpoint Test R: The Wipers Stay On Continuously
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- R1 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202.
- Carry out the multifunction switch component test.
Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .
- Did the multifunction switch pass the component test?
- Yes : GO to R2.
- No : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING SYSTEM for the removal and installation procedure.
- R2 CHECK CIRCUIT 31-KA19 (BK/RD) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202-2, circuit 31-KA19 (BK/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to R3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- R3 CHECK CIRCUITS 8-KA8 (WH/RD), 10-KA8 (GY/RD), 8-KA11 (WH/BK) AND 8-KA10 (WH/GN) FOR SHORTS TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Using the following table, measure the resistance between the windshield wiper motor C125, harness side and ground:WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR C125 AND GROUND
Windshield Wiper Motor C125 Ground pin 1, circuit 8-KA11 (WH/BK) ground pin 9, circuit 8-KA10 (WH/GN) ground pin 10, circuit 8-KA8 (WH/RD) ground pin 11, circuit 10-KA8 (GY/RD) ground - Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to R4.
- No : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- R4 CHECK FOR CORRECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
- Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : GO to R5.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
- R5 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Carry out the windshield wiper motor component test as described.
- Did the windshield wiper motor pass the component test?
- Yes : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a binding or incorrect pivot arm adjustment. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER .
