Pinpoint Test Y: The Reversing Lamps Are Inoperative

  1. Y1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE REVERSING LAMPS 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Place the multifunction switch in the LH turn position and observe the LH rear turn signal.
    • Does the LR turn signal operate correctly? 
    1. Yes  : GO to Y2.
    2. No  : REFER to TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD LAMPS  to continue diagnostics.
  2. Y2 CHECK THE PCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Engage the parking brake.
    • Monitor the PCM transmission gear status PID while placing the transmission in reverse and then neutral.
    • Does the PID match with the transmission gear selected? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  Y4.
    2. No  : GO to Y3.
  3. Y3 CHECK FOR PCM OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all PCM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new PCM. Refer to INTAKE AIR, FUEL CHARGING, STARTING & ENGINE ELECTRONICS - 3.0L (4V) - LS or INTAKE AIR, FUEL CHARGING, STARTING & ENGINE ELECTRONICS - 3.9L - LS . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. Y4 CHECK FOR REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE (REM) OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all REM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all REM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new REM. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
