Pinpoint Test J: The Power Supply Relay Is Inoperative - Switched System Power (SSP) 4

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The ignition switch must be cycled from OFF to ON to enable the SSP feature.
NOTE: Refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTING  and the SSP Relay Index for complete details of SSP1 powered features.
  1. J1 CHECK THE BATTERY JUNCTION BOX (BJB)
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SSP4 Relay C445.
    • Measure the voltage between the SSP4 relay C445-86, circuit 30-DG57 (RF/YE), harness side and ground; and between the SSP4 relay C445-30, circuit 30-DG58 (RD/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?

    Result/Action to Take

    1. Yes  : GO to J2.
    2. No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new BJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. J2 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-DG57 (BK/YE) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the resistance between the SSP4 relay C445-85, circuit 31S -DG57 (BK/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. Yes  : GO to J3.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.

TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. J3 CHECK THE SSP4 RELAY
    • Carry out the SSP4 relay component test.

      Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .

    • Is the SSP4 relay OK?
    1. Yes  : REPAIR circuit 30S-DB16(RD/GN).
    2. No  : INSTALL a new SSP4 relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
