Pinpoint Test F: The Power Supply Relay Is Inoperative - All Switched System Power (SSP) Features
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
The ignition switch must be cycled from OFF to ON to enable the SSP feature.
NOTE:
Refer to Principles of Operation and the SSP Relay Index for complete detail of SSP-powered features.
- FI CHECK THE BJB
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SSP1 Relay C441.
- Measure the voltage between the SSP1 relay C441 -86, circuit 30-DG51 (RD/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to F2.
- No : REPAIR or INSTALL a new BJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F2 CHECK THE CONTROL GROUND CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the SSP1 relay C441 -85, circuit 31S-DG51 (BK/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to F4.
- No : GO to F3.
- F3 CHECK FOR GROUND ON CIRCUIT 31S-DG51 (BK/YE)
- Measure the resistance between the SSP1 relay C441 -85, circuit 31S-DG51 (BK/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : INSTALL a new SSP1 relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR the circuit between the SSP relays and the electronic modules. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F4 CHECK THE SSP RELAY(S)
- Disconnect: SSP2 Relay C442.
- Disconnect: SSP3 Relay C444.
- Disconnect: SSP4 Relay C445.
- Carry out the relay component test on each SSP relay;
Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .
- Does each relay pass the component test?
- Yes : GO to F5.
- No : INSTALL a new SSP relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F5 CHECK THE FEM FOR SHORT TO POWER
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: FEM C201b.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the SSP1 relay C441 -85, circuit 31S-DG51 (BK/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to F6.
- No : GO to F7.
- F6 CHECK THE REM FOR SHORT TO POWER
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: REM C420b.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the SSP1 relay C441 -85, circuit 31S-DG51 (BK/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : REPAIR the SSP ground control circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to F8.
- F7 CHECK FOR FEM OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all FEM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all FEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new FEM. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
- F8 CHECK FOR REM OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all REM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all REM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new REM. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
