Pinpoint Test F: The Subwoofer Is Inoperative-CDX6 Only

  1. F1 CHECK THE SUBWOOFER OPERATION 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Turn the audio unit on.
    • Check the operation of the subwoofer speakers.
    • Are both subwoofer speakers inoperative? 
    1. Yes  : GO to F2.
    2. No  : GO to  F7.
  2. F2 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-MD19 (YE/RD) FOR POWER 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Subwoofer Amplifier C466a.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Turn on the audio unit.
    • Measure the voltage between the subwoofer amplifier C466a-1, circuit 7-MD19 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. Yes  : GO to F3.
    2. No  : GO to  F9.
  3. F3 CHECK CIRCUIT 30-MD19A (RD/BU) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Measure the voltage between the subwoofer amplifier C466a-5, circuit 30-MD19A (RD/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. Yes  : GO to F4.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. F4 CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT 31-MD19 (BK/BU) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the subwoofer amplifier C466a-2, circuit 31-MD19 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to F5.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. F5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1-MD19 (WH/RD) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Audio Unit C290a.
    • Measure the resistance between the subwoofer amplifier C466a-7, circuit 1-MD19 (WH/RD), harness side and the audio unit C290a -1, circuit 1-MD19 (WH/RD), harness side; and between the subwoofer amplifier C466-7, circuit 1-MD19 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the subwoofer amplifier and the audio unit, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the subwoofer amplifier and ground? 
    1. Yes  : GO to F6.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. F6 CHECK CIRCUIT 2-MD19 (GY/RD) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between the subwoofer amplifier C466a-8, circuit 2-MD19 (GY/RD), harness side and the audio unit C290a-2, circuit 2-MD19 (GY/RD), harness side; and between the subwoofer amplifier C466-8, circuit 2-MD19 (GY/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the subwoofer amplifier and the audio unit, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the subwoofer amplifier and ground? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  F10.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. F7 CHECK SUBWOOFER SPEAKER CIRCUITS 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Subwoofer Speakers.
    • Disconnect: Subwoofer Amplifier C466b.
    • Measure the resistance between the subwoofer amplifier output and return circuits; and between each subwoofer amplifier pin and ground as follows:
      SPEAKER OUTPUT

      Speaker Output + Output -
      Left Subwoofer C466b-3, circuit 8-MD22 (WH/GN) C466b-4, circuit 10-MD22 (GY/OG)
      Right Subwoofer C466b-1, circuit 8-MD21 (WH/BU) C466b-2, circuit 10-MD21 (GY/VT)
    • Is the resistance approximately 5 ohms between the subwoofer amplifier and the speakers and greater than 10,000 ohms between the subwoofer amplifier and ground? 
    1. Yes  : GO to F8.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit between the subwoofer amplifier and the inoperative subwoofer speaker. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. F8 CHECK SUBWOOFER SPEAKER 
    • Substitute the inoperative subwoofer speaker with a known good subwoofer speaker.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Check the operation of the subwoofer speakers.
    • Does the known good subwoofer speaker operate correctly? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new subwoofer speaker. REFER to SUBWOOFER SPEAKER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REMOVE the subwoofer amplifier and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to SUBWOOFER AMPLIFIER . TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. F9 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-MD19 (YE/RD) FOR OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Audio Unit C290a.
    • Measure the resistance between the subwoofer amplifier C466b-1, circuit 7-MD19 (YE/RD), harness side and the audio unit C290a-4, circuit 7-MD19 (YE/RD), harness side. Measure the resistance between the subwoofer amplifier C466b-1, circuit 7-MD19 (YE/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the subwoofer amplifier and the audio unit and greater than 10,000 ohms between the audio unit and ground? 
    1. Yes  : REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to AUDIO UNIT . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  10. F10 CHECK FOR SUBWOOFER SIGNAL AUDIO 
    • Connect: Audio Unit.
    • Measure the AC voltage between the subwoofer amplifier C466a-7, circuit 2-MD19 (GY/RD), harness side and the audio unit C466a-8, circuit 1-MD19 (WH/RD), harness side.

    • Is there a fluctuating AC voltage? 
    1. Yes  : REMOVE the subwoofer amplifier and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to SUBWOOFER AMPLIFIER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to AUDIO UNIT . TEST the system for normal operation.
