Removal and Installation

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Drain the engine oil.
3. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table. To remove individual components, only carry out the listed steps.
   OIL PAN, OIL PUMP, OIL PUMP SCREEN AND PICKUP TUBE COMPONENT STEPS

4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Item 1: Oil Pan Bolts Removal Note

1. Remove the bolts.

2. Remove the bolts and the lateral support bar.

Items 4 and 5: Oil Pump Screen and Pickup Tube Removal Note 

CAUTION: Only use hand tools to remove the oil pump screen and pickup tube.
1. Remove the bolts and the oil pump screen and pickup tube.
   • Inspect the O-ring seal and install a new one if necessary.

Items 6-8: Oil Pump Removal Note 

1. Remove the timing drive components. For additional information, refer to TIMING DRIVE COMPONENTS  in this section.
2. Remove the bolts and the oil pump.
   • Discard the gasket.

CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leaks paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of sealant.

3. Clean the sealing surfaces.

Items 6-8: Oil Pump Installation Note 

1. Install a new gasket.

2. Install the oil pump and tighten the bolts in two stages.
   • Stage 1: Tighten to 6 N.m (53 lb-in).
   • Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.

3. Install the timing drive components. For additional information, refer to TIMING DRIVE COMPONENTS  in this section.

Items 4 and 5: Oil Pump Screen and Pickup Tube Installation Note 

NOTE: Apply clean engine oil to the O-ring seal prior to installing.

1. Install the oil pump screen and pickup tube.

Items 1-3: Oil Pan Installation Note 

NOTE: Make sure all gasket sealing surfaces are clean and dry.

1. Install a new oil pan gasket and the oil pan. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in two stages:
   • Stage 1: Tighten to 5 N.m (44 lb-in).
   • Stage 2: Tighten to 12 N.m (9 lb-ft).

2. Position the lateral support bars and install the bolts.

3. Install the bolts.
4. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
