Removal and Installation

1. Remove the transmission. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 5R55S .
2. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table. To remove individual components, only carry out the listed steps.

3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Item 3: Crankshaft Rear Seal Removal Note 

1. Using the special tools, remove the crankshaft rear seal.
   • Discard the seal.

Item 3: Crankshaft Rear Seal Installation Note 

CAUTION: The plastic sleeve that comes with the new crankshaft rear oil seal, protects the seal while in transit and is also used as an installation tool to prevent lip seal roll when carrying out the repair. The sleeve must be used to prevent future seal concerns.
NOTE: Lubricate the outer lips and the inner seal on the crankshaft rear oil seal with clean engine oil.

1. Position the rear oil seal with the protective installer onto the end of the crankshaft.
2. Using the special tool, install a new crankshaft rear oil seal.

Items 1 and 2: Flexplate Installation Note 

NOTE: The crankshaft dowel must be positioned below the outer face of the flexplate.

1. Install the flexplate with the elongated hole over the crankshaft dowel.
2. Install the flexplate bolts and tighten in two stages in the sequence shown. See Fig 6.
   • Stage 1: Tighten to 15 N.m (11 lb-ft).
   • Stage 2: Tighten to 110 N.m (81 lb-ft).
