Removal and Installation

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
- Hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position using a suitable holding device.
- Remove the three-way catalytic (TWC) converter. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM .
- Remove the oil level indicator and tube. For additional information, refer to OIL LEVEL INDICATOR AND TUBE in this section.
- Remove the screws and the sight shield.
- Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. For additional information, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS

Item 6: LH Exhaust Manifold Nut Removal Note
- Remove the exhaust manifold.
- Remove the eight nuts.
- Remove the exhaust manifold and discard the gasket.
Items 6: LH Exhaust Manifold Nut Installation Note
- Install the exhaust manifold.
- Install a new gasket and the exhaust manifold.
- Tighten the eight nuts in the sequence shown.
