Removal and Installation

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Remove the RH ignition coils. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR, FUEL CHARGING, STARTING & ENGINE ELECTRONICS - 3.0L (4V) .
  3. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table. See Fig 1.

  4. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table. See Fig 2.

  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Items 8, 9, and 10: Valve Cover, Valve Cover Stud Bolts and Valve Cover Bolts Installation Note 

  1. Clean the cylinder head-to-valve cover sealing surface.
  2. NOTE: The valve cover must be installed within four minutes of sealant application.

  3. Apply an 8 mm (0.32 in) bead of silicone gasket and sealant to the cylinder head half-round surface and to the front cover-to-cylinder head joint face.
  4. NOTE: Locations 1 and 2 are bolts. Locations 3-12 are stud bolts.

  5. Install the RH valve cover, and tighten the bolts and stud bolts in the sequence shown. See Fig 4.
