Removal and Installation

- With the vehicle in neutral, position it on a hoist.
- Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT, TENSIONER AND PULLEY in this section.
- Remove the front center splash shield.
- Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Items 1 and 2: Crankshaft Pulley Bolt and Washer Removal Note
- Using the special tool to hold the crankshaft pulley, remove and discard the bolt.
Item 3: Crankshaft Pulley Removal Note
- Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft pulley.
CAUTION:
The special tool must grab the inside of the damper or damage to the damper can occur.
Item 4: Crankshaft Front Seal Removal Note
- Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft front seal.
CAUTION:
Use care not to scratch the crankshaft surface while removing the seal.
Item 4: Crankshaft Front Seal Installation Note
- Lubricate the inside diameter of the crankshaft front seal with clean engine oil.
- Using the special tool, install the crankshaft front oil seal.
Item 3: Crankshaft Pulley Installation Note
- Apply silicone gasket and sealant to the end of the keyway slot.
- Using the special tool, install the crankshaft pulley.
NOTE:
Sealing surface must be free of dirt and oil.
NOTE:
Lubricate the outside diameter sealing surface of the crankshaft pulley with clean engine oil.
Items 1 and 2: Crankshaft Pulley Bolt and Washer Installation Note
- Using the special tool to hold the crankshaft pulley, install a new bolt. Tighten the bolt in four stages:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 120 N.m (89 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Loosen one full turn (360 degrees).
- Stage 3: Tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb-ft).
- Stage 4: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.
